Zomba Plateau Stables are located on Zomba Plateau just opposite Mulunguzi dam. It is about a one and a half hour drive from Blantyre, just an hour from Liwonde National Park and just over two hours to the southern part of the lake.
Plateau Stables are the only trail riding operation in the South and Central region of Malawi and offer trail rides for one up to five hours a day. The mountain is a great place to explore on horse back. Depending on the length of your ride we can take you across Mulunguzi dam, up to the waterfalls and view points as well as Chingwe’s hole. The scenery varies from pine tree plantations and indigenous forests to open grass land up on the plateau.
We've got a great variety of horse breeds so we can find the best suited horse for all abilities. Beginners are welcome. Helmets are manditory and these and all other apparel are provided.
Booking information:
Please make sure to check for availability and book your ride at least one day in advance. Our horses go out grazing quite a long way away but we will keep them at the stables for you if we know you’re coming.
Prices:
Prices are $40 per person per hour or Malawi Kwacha equivalent. Please note that we take USD or Malawi Kwacha Cash only.
There is a group discount of 10% for a group that does six or more hours in total.
